Throwback to Good Old Days: Capturing Fool’s Gold’s 15th Anniversary

This past weekend was a nostalgic throwback to the good old days as I dusted off my trusted NickyDigital camera setup. The assignment? Capturing the electrifying energy of Fool’s Gold’s 15th Anniversary – a very special event for A-Trak, Nick Catchdubs, and the entire Fool’s Gold Records family at a venue that is very close to my heart, Webster Hall.

My decade-long journey as the house photographer for Webster Hall brought back some truly cherished memories. Walking through the venue, it was hard not to notice the impressive facelift it had undergone. From the updated elevator to the modernized stairways, the transformed bars into green rooms and green rooms into stages, to even the reinforced floors, it all whispered tales of the past. The venue was a sweet remembrance of all the electronic music events I had once captured with my lens.

Friday night was a carousel of faces. There were familiar faces I hadn’t seen in years, alongside fresh, new ones. It was a testament to the exponential growth of the electronic music community in NYC since my early days in the early 2000s.

The event brought together a mix of old friends and new talents. From the likes of A-Trak, Uffie (Oh, how vividly I remember our first meeting at an Ed Banger Records BlogHouse party in 2006 thrown by Lauren Flax in a defunct bank in the Lower East Side!), and Treasure Fingers, to the thrilling beats of newer artists on the scene like Blu Detiger, The Hellp, and Frost Children – the evening was a harmonious blend of the past and the present.

That night was not just about recollecting old memories and making new ones. It was about the music, the artists, and most importantly, the community that defines us. It was a night that showed how far we’ve come and how much farther we can go.

I invite you to join me on this walk down memory lane.
