Mtume, an 80’s disco band formed by James Mtume, Miles Davis former drummer in the 70’s, along with Reggie Lucas and Tawatha Agee. Together they produced a slew of hits, including 1983’s "Juicy Fruit," which has also been sampled in a plethora of hip-hop tracks. Most notably Biggie‘s track “Juicy.”
Aside from recording their own floor filling funk they worked with many other well known artists such as Stephanie Mills, Roy Ayers, and Jellybean Benitez. They even hand their hands in Madonna‘s early hits like "Borderline” and "Lucky Star.”
We’d like to share "Green Light,” a favorite of ours. It’s a smooth groover that’s filled with a great hook and funky guitar licks. It’s a great early night lazer funk track that really warms the dance floor and puts you in the mood to get out and shake your groove thang.
