GQ (short for Good Quality) originally formed as Sabu & the Survivors in 1968. Over the next decade they developed into one of the best live disco bands of the era.
The Bronx natives are credited with inspiring Afrika Bambaataa, Grand Master Flash, and other Bronx-based hip-hop pioneers.
Their tunes have appeared on tons of great compilations and DJ mixes. One of the most notable is LCD Soundsystem‘s Fabriclive mix, in which James Murphy and Pat Mahoney spin in their song “Lies,” off their 1980 album titled 2.
Check out the title track from their 1979 album Disco Nights, which always works on the dance floor no matter what time of night.
