MEET & GREET: Kissy Sell Out

Kissy Sell Out

Back in March Kissy Sell Out hooked us up with an amazing exclusive mix tape which debuted a bunch of his original material along side some other great dance tunes!

We caught up with him to find out about his least favorite color, his favorite gadget and a whole lot more!

Name: Kissy Sell Out

Age: 25

Favorite flavor ice cream: Knicker-bocker-glory (do you get those in the US?)

I’m from: Essex, England

But I live in: East London, England

And work at/doing: I usually avoid questions like this cos it sounds a bit pretentious but “electro producer, international DJ, radio broadcaster and designer who also tours with a live band” I guess!

My first job was: in a graphic design studio. I would go after school when I was 15. I think.

[Continue reading to find out about the one talent he is not modest about!]

My worst job was: working in a DIY superstore one summer while I was at university — I learned a lot of life lessons there!

Favorite gadget: my official Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure cassette tape player

The best gift I’ve ever received: I had my car sound system pimped up at the start of the year with a 12″ sub woofer and 1000watt amplifier in the trunk — it was all I talked about for months!

The worst gift I’ve ever recieved: I remember getting a really crappy ice-lolly maker when I was a kid that provided many disapointing memories!

When I’m in NY I: …occasionally try and hide my south-east English accent when I wanna catch a taxi in town but it never works haha!

My five favorite people to follow on twitter are: Felix Da Housecat, Fake Blood, Erol Alkan, Herve and Tony Hawk

Right before we perform I: pace around semi-hysterically, triple-checking and quadruple-checking the back line equipment — but playing arcade games on my iPhone has helped a bit recently!

I know it’s going to be a good show when: it’s packed and the crowd are getting rowdy! Ealier in the year we had to go on stage after the previous band had been boo’ed off but I think the adrenaline triggered something magical from us because it was my favourite live gig of 2009!

While we perform we: stick together and dance around a lot — the 3 of us in my band are just good friends so the energy comes quite naturally luckily.

Right after we perform I: collapse on the floor in exhuastion and euphoria!

My favorite shape is: good question! I like the word “Rhombus” but I remember discovering the a circle was the most efficient shape in a maths lesson once so maybe a circle?

My least favorite color is: light blue (*im shivering thinking about it yuk!*) it reminds me of hospital waiting rooms

The weirdest thing that’s ever happened during a show: we performed at a festival called Bestival in 2008 during a very unforgiving storm which was quickly turning the idilic surroundings into something resembling a World War One movie — the gig was actually fantastic but right on the last beat of the last song there was a major power cut to the electricity and it struck just as we all jumped on the floor so everyone in the audience thought we had been electrocuted!

Roses are red violets are blue: ..but I often find they can smell like old shoes!

Shop at: vintage stores and internet auctions mainly

And read: obsessively read Bret Easton Ellis books and reluctantly read computer manuals ;-)

If you were to teach one subject on a college level it would be: media studies because that’s a total doss lesson when you can do whatever you like!

If I’m at a super fun party I really hope I have: …a nice outfit on, I end up wearing quite unusual clothes sometimes but I get quite self-conscious around lots of people which is a bad combination!

My favorite topic for small talk is: not music that’s for sure! I usually jump into conversations with an embarrassing anecdote of the latest ridiculous situation I’ve managed to get myself into.

If I had a million dollars I would: buy my mum a massive house and then spend the rest on paying off all my friends and families debts and mortgages.

If I was to be stuck on an island indefinitely I would need: the complete musical catalogue of “Swans”, something to play the music on and probably a Wilson volley ball to paint a face onto!

If I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life it would be: beef jerky

I am influenced by: expressive forms of creativity that make you feel a certain way.

You should know that: …i’m a sh*t-hot roller-skater! It’s the only thing I’m not modest about!
