Scorpio Rising at Baby’s All Right on November 19, 2014

A melding of art and music with psychedelic imagery featuring Andrew Wyatt (Miike Snow), Sky White Tiger, Prince Rama, Rinsed DJs Kitten, ASTR, Friendly Greg and more!

I got a text message from my friend Jo asking if she could give my number to her friend Yasmin (BTW this is what you’re supposed to do, you’re not supposed to just give out other people’s private info) because Yasmin was helping with an event at Baby’s All Right and wanted me to come out and shoot the show (yes, this is how I find out that cool things are happening).

She sent over the flier and it was confusing but listed a zillion performers and boasted video art, tarot card reading, crystal gazing and more! It was all supposed to go down between 7:30 and 10:30 PM.

I arrived around 9:30 and made my way through the packed room just in time to catch Sky White Tiger‘s set. It was a melding of psych-rock and video mapped crystals galore. There were even a troupe of “moon dancers” who accompanied the show just the right amount. I had no idea what I was getting myself into but it was so refreshing to see a live act go above and beyond just strumming on some unplugged guitars and singing over backing tracks.

The night wrapped with an unexpected live production set from Andrew Wyatt which included Miike Snow sing-alongs and some newer unreleased material including “Falling Apart,” a tune that Wyatt collaborated on with Brian Wilson. Even it’s stripped down live version Wilson’s fingerprints were all over it. (I found a version of it on Soundcloud so I embedded it below the gallery. Definitely worth a spin.)

Just when I thought the night was over, I bumped into my friend @EmmiesHouse who was throwing her slumber party party in the very same room. The night included HEART SHAPED PIZZA (and normal pizza) and DJ sets from Kitten (who just moved to NYC), ASTR (who I think I bumped into at every single festival this summer) and Friendly Greg (whom I didn’t actually get to meet but seemed quite personable).
