With Metric‘s new music video out last week and their new album, Fantasies, just a week away, we caught up with front woman, Emily Haines, to chat about the band’s pre-show habits, her favorite gadget and more!
Name: Emily Haines
Age: less
Favorite flavor ice cream: Just put it in a cone and I will find a way to like it.
I’m from: New Delhi, India
But I live in: Toronto + New York City
And work at/doing: acrobatics, songwriting, staying in love, running a record label
My first job was: unpaid servant to the hipster masses
My worst job was: my first job
Right before we perform we: ask each other “Where am I?” and “What fucking day is it?”
I know it’s going to be a good show when: I can hear the crowd chanting our name
While we perform I: remember my life’s purpose
Right after we perform we: are whisked away in a fleet of golden horse drawn carriages. Faster! Faster! Before I turn into a pumpkin!
The weirdest thing that’s ever happened during a show: Spontaneously jumping off the stage and crowd surfing during a live nationally televised outdoor performance of Monster Hospital at the Much Music Video Awards in Toronto. I didn’t know I was going to do it until I did it. Mercifully, the audience caught me with open arms and I floated back to the stage in their capable hands. It was an exhilarating feeling but was such a stupid and risky thing to do. Could have been bad. Very bad. I don’t plan on repeating the stunt at the Grammys.
Shop at: Why, Printemps in Paris of course!
And read: Great Jones Street by Don Delillo
If I’m at a super fun party I really hope I have: the brains to leave before I get into trouble.
My favorite topic for small talk is: how things would be if they weren’t the way they are.
If I had a million dollars I would: turn it into two million
If I was to be stuck on an island indefinitely I would need: my man
If I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life it would be: Humble pie.
Favorite gadget: my infrared sauna
I am influenced by: American foreign policy, hormones, mood lighting, music from England
You should know that: Metric is touring FANTASIES in the spring and plays NYC at Terminal 5 on June 17.
Cheryl Marshall, a co-founder of the education program, testified that she did not report Lohan to be in violation of the judge’s order when the actress missed nine meetings and then made up an undisclosed number.
Marshall said she was aware the program received a phone call from the judge in December saying she wanted Lohan to attend classes each week. But Marshall added that she never got a paper copy of the
order and did not consider it active.
