Jack Daniel’s Lynchburg General Store Pop-Up Shop Grand Opening on September 19, 2016

Jack Daniel’s is celebrating its 150th anniversary in New York with the launch of its Jack Daniel’s Lynchburg General Store, a one-week retail pop up in the Flatiron district.

The store commemorates the brand’s 150th birthday by featuring collaborations with NY-based artists (Good And Shiddy), designers (Christian Benner and Harlem’s Flamekeepers Hat Club), makers (Apotheke Brooklyn) and stylists (Blind Barber). Merchandise includes a mix of gent-centric limited-edition apparel and accessories, grooming supplies, music equipment (like wah wah pedals), rare branded items, Lynchburg food and gifts, slick barware and liquor accouterments.

Events staged at the pop up point to highlights in the brand’s history, like the Gold Medal it was awarded at the 1904 World’s Fair, its embrace by Frank Sinatra in the 1940s, its appearance backstage with 1960s rock legends like Mick Jagger, and its popularity in the punk scene of the 1970s/80s.

Jack Daniel, the man, died in 1911 from blood poisoning he suffered from a progressive infection developed initially in his toe after he kicked his safe (he couldn’t remember the combo). For the first time the safe, a brand artifact, was taken from Daniel’s office in Lynchburg, Tenn. and is now installed at the pop up, created by the Mirrorball agency.

Visit the pop up from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Saturday (155 5th Ave., btw 22nd/21st). The pop up travels next to Chicago (October) and Miami (November).
