MUSIC NEWS: EDM takes over the Grammys!

The 54th annual Grammy Awards were last night, and while we would normally be perfectly content to just sit back and wait for the best moments to crop up on our blogroll, but Electronic Dance Music made a huge jump to the mainstream in 2011, and this year’s Grammy noms reflected this. Natch, we had to tune in and woop it up for our homies. Here are some of the evening’s highlights in EDM that you might have missed if you were…actually out listening to EDM.

-Skrilly took home three Grammys.

Up against the likes of mentor Deadmau5, Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta, Duck Sauce, Cut Copy, and Robyn, Skrillex walked away with golden gramophones for Best Dance Recording (“Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites”), Best Dance/Electronic Album (“Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites”), and Best Remixed Recording for Benny Benassi‘s “Cinema”. Unfortunately, you can’t win ’em all: Skrillex lost out in Best Short Form Music Video, which went to Adele‘s “Rolling in the Deep,” and Best New Artist, which went to Bon Iver (or “Bonnie Bear”).

-Deadmau5 and David Guetta performed with Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, and Foo Fighters.

Sure, it was a bit as though the Grammy organizers closed their eyes, opened the contacts of their phones, and randomly selected five names, but the weirdness of seeing Deadmau5 launch into a bass-filled remix of Foo Fighters’ latest single, “Ropes,” was totally dissipated by the amazingness that is watching Dave Grohl in a Slayer tee bopping along to brostep.

-Deadmau5 trolled Skrillex on the red carpet. Hard.

Duck Sauce (A-Trak & Armand van Helden made a red carpet appearance with a welcome interruption from Skrillex who was full of shout outs for our buddies like 12th Planet!
