A few minutes ago, MTV.com premiered the glitzy new video for LCD Soundsystem‘s disco-funk hit “Pow Pow,” starring Oscar-nominee Anna Kendrick. However, this was no ordinary video. This was the first of potentially many in a new breed of music video: the Supervideo!
No, your eyes do not deceive you. According to an article today on NY Mag’s blog, MTV has created the “Supervideo” in an attempt to resurrect the popularity of the music video (you know, those things that MTV built their business on before all the orange tans and GTLing?).
The idea is this: MTV will pump money into Hollywood-budget music videos starring A-list talent and suddenly, people will remember why it was once called “Music Television” and completely forget why they cared about what it was like the first time Snooki ate a fried pickle. Wait, what?…
So what do you guys think about these “cinemashes”? Do they breathe new life into a “dying art”? Do you think the Supervideo will turn out to be a Superhero, or a Supervillain?
