OH LAWD HAVE MERCY!
Breakout blues-babe Diane Birch has joined forces with NYC’s-own Phenomenal Handclap Band for a stellar cover album of favorites from Birch’s rebellious teen years, rearranged and oozing with soulful goodness.
While her father was busy conducting church services, Diane was getting decked out in floor-length black capes over vintage wedding dresses and listening to the likes of The Cure, Joy Division, and Siouxsie & the Banshees (you know, normal teenage stuff…). Ten years later, Birch’s “phase” has turned into a tricked-out album of old standards with a fresh flair.
Stream album-opener “This Corrosion” (originally by Sisters of Mercy) and peep the full tracklist below, and make sure to check out The Velveteen Age when it drops December 7th on S-Curve Records! Sometimes, teen spirit can smell really, really good…
