Throughout the year we at NickyDigital.com try and bring you access to the best parties and events … in person if you live in NYC and via the interweb if we aren’t neighbors.
Each year we are extremely excited to cover and partake in the CMJ festival. It’s a chance for us to showcase some of our favorite talent and to have more of our international audience in town to experience it first hand.
AND this year is no exception! We have hand picked a selection of our favorite emerging acts from this past year and put them all on one bill! As if that wasn’t good enough, our showcase is completely FREE to everyone if you RSVP!
DOM Worcester, MA
Hailing from Worcester, Massachusetts, Dom the band is a hazy bubblegum pop dream.. With fuzzy warped vocals, low-fi distortion and broken Casio keyboard lines, Dom filters a DIY aesthetic through the upbeat, sunny rhythms of pop music. Dom released their first 7 song EP, Sun Bronzed Greek Gods by March 2010 in Erik’s bedroom using a pink paisley guitar, a Casio keyboard and Fruity Loops. The EP gained critical acclaim and was later picked up by EMI/Astralwerks, Parlophone and Modular People.
The group led in nominations at the 2010 Boston Music Awards for Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year and Best New Artist, taking home Song of The Year for, “Living in America”. The Sun Bronzed Greek Gods EP made many Best of 2010 Lists, including Pitchfork Media’s Staff Picks: Best Albums of 2010, and Spin’s 20 Best Songs of Summer. The group later went on to collaborate with rapper Gucci Mane and supported Ratatat on a North American Tour.
In August 2011, Dom released Family of Love EP. Produced by Nicolas Vernhes (Animal Collective, Björk), the EP was featured in Rolling Stone for making Billboard’s Top 10 College Radio chart September 2011. They were again nominated for the 2011 Boston Music Awards for Song of the Year. The band played Lollapalooza 2011, receiving outstanding reviews and was asked by Perry Farrell, the festival founder to open for Jane’s Addiction.
Fibes, Oh Fibes! (Göteborg, Sweden)
Sweden’s Fibes, Oh Fibes! recently released their 4th studio album entitled ‘Album’, produced and co-written by Pontus Winnberg (of Miike Snow / Bloodshy and Avant – Brittney Spears etc) in Scandinavia where it received 4 star reviews in every Swedish national paper and the debut single ‘Goodbye To Love’ is set to become one of most played songs on Swedish national radio in 2012.
‘Album’ was recorded at the ‘Ingrid’, a studio run by Peter, Björn & John, Miike Snow and Lykke Li, in Stockholm during 2011 – 2012 and features performances by Icona Pop, John Eriksson (Peter, Bjorn and John) and Jesper Jahold (Föntan).
Prior to ‘Album’, the band focused their energies on Scandinavia achieving a Grammy award (best pop album 2009) top 5 airplay, single and album chart positions allowing them to perfect their writing and performing skills close to home.
The new album – their most successful critically and commercially to date –and a new team working with the band marks a turning point in the Fibes, oh Fibes! story making them perfectly poised to repeat their domestic success globally.

(a.k.a. Joel Burleson) is a recording artist and producer who specializes in genres of electronic and indie/alternative rock. REPTILE YOUTH (Denmark)
Reptile Youth was founded in 2009 by vocalist Mads Damsgaard Kristiansen and bassist Esben Valløe. Soon after its formation, the band toured extensively to rapturous acclaim. In 2010 Reptile Youth completed the longest tour of China ever for a Danish act, and in 2011 the duo performed at Iceland Airwaves, Reeperbahn Festival, Unit Tokyo, and Roskilde festivals as the only band without an actual release. The band plans to tour extensively throughout Europe and North America this fall and leading into early next year.
SUCH HOUNDS (Brooklyn, NY)
Mixing jangly blues with ragged Americana, Such Hounds self-released their widely received debut EP in 2011. Their sound has been personified as Tom Petty snorkeling in bong water and their melodies reek of stale beer and nostalgia. Crack a tallboy and join in on the raucous sing-alongs.

THE BOBBY EFFECT (East Palo Alto, CA)
In the midst of all the hardships in East Palo Alto, CA the rural city raised a talented artist by the name of TheBobbyEffect. The young adult has emerged into the scene with lyrical force. While music has always been a place of inspiration in her life, the past couple of years allowed her to develop a bonafide artistic style and sound that is impossible to ignore. Released in early 2012 was TheBobbyEffect’s first mixtape, Bunny’s World, hosted by fellow Bay Area native, Lil Debbie. The mixtape quickly received 15,000 downloads and its videos have accumulated over half a million views, enabling her name to be recognized by people around the world. Missy Elliot, ASAP Rocky, Lady Gaga, MIA, and Kelis are among her most prominent musical influences. After a recent visit to the Bad Boy Studios and plenty of praise from other labels, Bobby’s passion, talent, and drive will inevitably make her presence felt in the music industry.
